This is really funny, Lianne! I’m sure that Dickens is rolling in his grave at your detailed description of your childhood home… Meanwhile, Mafalda is revving up the chainsaw at the mere mention of another literature night devoted to Beowulf. 😂

Hahaha yesss. You know, I’ve since moved Mafalda from the garage into our basement. She’s looking pretty anodine these days, but you just never know. Meanwhile I’ve hidden my Beowulf from view :))))

Hahahaa...thank you, I needed a good laugh today. Who knew the Sweedish chef was so educated! Maybe he'd been reciting Beowulf this whole time...and then there was the time, many years later we went to see Beowulf the interminable film...we must not have hated it that much :) I love these posts of yours, remind me of things I havent thought of in years!

I was thinking about that interminable film and your reaction (with the sniff/sighing signaling boredom) and was trying to figure out how to work it in. It may very well make it into a future newsletter :)). I figure we must have had a fondness for Beowulf too, after all, and it’s what I remember best about our literature evenings. If you can think of other specific works we listened to, please let me know!

I'll give it a thought, but it's like Beowulf erased everything else from my mind...and eyes the hmm, hmm, hmm feeling still is the first thing I think of too. and your reaction to it, because you got it right away.

Yaaass, I can see into your mind mwahaha! That reaction of yours still kills me every time I think about it. Almost worth subjecting myself to the movie again…
